I won't paste the rules because i don't really know any other active people on here to tag.
 Questions from Sofia:

1. Who is your favourite author and what would be your favourite book by them?
I'm going to say Dodie Smith and I Capture the Castle even tho I have read none of her other works, simply because this is the only book to consistently make me cry.

2. What art/artists inspire you most?
I really look up to Emily Hu, because she just seems so in love with art and I find her pretty funny. Art that inspires me as such tends to be books or other forms of storytelling, because i'd love to be at a level where i can tell a story with a picture. But currently this manifests as a way for me to pick attractive faces to draw.

3. What got you into drawing yourself?
 Naruto.

4.  Is there something you're supposed to be doing right now, but you're putting off? What is it?
Arranging my paperwork for my driving test tomorrow.

5.  Describe to me your favourite OC out of all of the ones you have created.
Wow it's been a while since I even contemplated my OCs. I'm not a good one for character creation anyway. I'm going to pick Evelyn Hallow, simply because I still favour Halloween and her colour scheme.

6. What music are you loving at the moment?
I managed to get myself addicted to Wicked Games by The Weeknd. I'm also listening to The Chain (Fleetwood Mac) and The Girl You Lost To Cocaine (Sia) quite a lot.

7. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why that place?
New Zealand because they have skiing hot springs and gorgeous scenery and New Zealand accents.

8. Are you good at keeping your drawings to your sketchbook or are the type to sketch on loose leafs of paper?
I often doodle on loose leaf because i hate the thought of tarnishing a sketch book with a shitty drawing. I am trying to train myself back into using sketchbooks tho, to save paper.

9. Would you ever be interested in exploring abandoned places?
Yeah, they can be pretty cool. I wouldn't go alone tho, and certainly not at night.

10. SOME ADVICE ON KEEPING THESE GODDAMN MOSQUITOES AWAY WOULD BE REAL HELPFUL RIGHT ABOUT NOW. GOD, HELP ME.
Eat lots of garlic. Use an insect net. Get an insecticutor. You might need to sell your soul to the devil if all that fails.

Personal:
Well I'm in my first week of my work placement now and it's going okay so far :) Hope you are all well! xxx

Bored

So term is over and I find myself very
very
bored.

Sure I have three knitting projects to work on but a woman cannot live on yarn alone.

So I'm gonna ask you all to give me requests, please? I haven't really drawn anything in ages and I want to get warmed back up.

Hoping you are well,
Chalky xx

Rest in Peace

Hi everyone,

I didn't want to tell facebook or anything, but I want you guys to know that my grandmother died on the Saturday the 11th of August after a sudden illness. As a result I am back at the family home for probably the next week at least.

I know it's going to come out all weird and wrong, but I feel a few more words need to be said about her and the circumstances of her death. I'm sorry if any of this hits close to home.

My grandmother had been in good health right up until her last couple of days, for which we are all thankful. She may not have had her full motility but she was able to do the things she wanted to, look after herself and her husband, and she never lost her wit or humour. She died surrounded by loved ones. She had made it clear she did not want any invasive treatments or life-prolonging measures as soon as she was diagnosed with renal failure, and her wishes were respected and she was able to slip away quickly and peacefully. The staff at Lincoln county hospital were all immensely helpful and caring, and I don't think my family would have coped without their incredible support.

I have her to thank for the fact that I am able to knit. I still have my first project, a simple rectangle in pink and white that she helped me sew up into an unnecessarily large pencilcase. I remember sitting cross-legged on her lounge floor working away at it. She passed onto me some crochet squares my great-grandmother had made, and which I still add to every now and again. She had a huge collection of frogs and miniature whiskeys which adorn every horizontal surface of her home. I got my first Terry Pratchett novel from her bookcase - an old copy of Guards, Guards! which she had bought and never really enjoyed, so she encouraged me to take it. Sometimes, and not often enough, I would go spend the weekend at her house and do some cleaning for her. She would always pay me too much for it, and make me do weird things like washing the door frames - she could still do most of it herself, so she made me do the little jobs that she could not be bothered with. My sister and I would both go over sometimes, and spend the whole day just dusting her entire collection of frog ornaments and whiskey bottles. We counted them once, and she had around a hundred in the bathroom alone. She would ask me to help her cut lavender heads from the garden in summer, and tie the flowers up to dry in the airing cupboard, and then she would sew them into little pouches to tuck into clothes drawers to keep them smelling nice. My sister and I would try to catch frogs from her pond, just to show to her. She went to the bike races on the Isle of Man every year with my grandfather. She had a penchant for big, oversized amethyst and amber rings and pendants.

If you bothered reading all that, bless your soul. I just want to write out as much as I can, before I forget.

Love to you all,
Chalky out xxxxx

Rules:
-You must post these rules.
-You must post 10 things about yourself.
-You must answer the questions the tagger has set for you, and make 10 new questions for your tagged people.
-Choose 10 people to tag and post their icons bellow.

-No tag-backs.
-None of that "if you're reading this, you're tagged" shit.

Ten things about me:
1. I love tea, and rarely drink coffee.
2. That being said I am drinking coffee right now.
3. I have waist-length hair.
4. I have several books in my room that I have begun reading but can't be bothered to finish, namely: Bitten, The Left Hand Of God, Wormwood, and The Poisonwood Bible. This is what happens when you stray outside of your established favourite authors/genres.
5. I am five foot eleven and a half and Digi hates me for it because he's only like five foot nine and a bit.
6. In spite of this I have fairly small feet for my height - size 6/7.
7. I struggle to finish things in general, especially things that I am knitting or drawing. I easily have over a hundred unfinished drawings in my numerous sketchbooks, and several unfinished knitting projects.
8.  I am studying Biochemistry and I really hope that I will go into a profession that uses my degree.
9. I cannot ride a bike.
10. My favourite book ever is I Capture The Castle, the ending gets me every time Q.Q Hehe.

Questions from skejy:
1. What fandom(s) are you most into right now?
I haven't done much fandom related stuff in a while, but I enjoy all of the Supernatural/Doctor Who/Avengers/Misfits stuff that comes into my dash on tumblr, so I guess these are fandoms that I enjoy while not being a real member of. My last proper fandom membership would be Homestuck.

2. What's your favorite subject matter to draw?
  People, especially faces and expressions.

3. Read any good books lately?
I have read the first four books of A Song Of Ice And Fire recently. They're good.

4. Do you like a sushi? Do you have a favorite roll?
I love sushi, and my favourite thing I have ever had at a sushi restaurant was the Inari roll/parcels - they have pickled radish and rice stuffed in a sweet pancake, it's awesome.

5. What's your favorite animated movie?
  Mulan.

6. What are you wearing while you're answering this?
Jeans, t-shirt.

7. Who is your favorite artist on DA?
I think for her attitude and sense of humour, it would have to be Humon.

8. Who was your first kiss? What was it like?
Xen, and it was awkward because we weren't properly alone so I was like god, save it for later! XD Although my sister will insist on reminding me that I apparently had a boyfriend on the bus when I was seven or so, and we would pretty much spend the bus journey huddled under our raincoats and kissing. I don't recall that though.

9. Do you attend / sell at anime conventions? Which ones do you frequent the most?
  Not even once.

10. If you were a Pokemon, what type would you be?
I was never really into Pokemon so I have no idea.

My questions:
1. What is your favourite food?
2. What size shoe are you?
3. What is your favourite pastime?
4. What is your favourite book?
5. What, if anything, do you watch on TV?
6. Do you do art casually or with a view to doing it as a profession?
7. Do you have any guilty pleasure songs (you know, really trashy but you cannot stop listening to them?) What are they?
8. Any useless talents?
9. Pizza, yes or no?
10. Favourite fruit?

I tag:
:icongrabyourshovelanddig: :iconnoctomaniac: :iconsteph-sama: :iconbiocchi: :iconxen-yakodo:
I can't tag ten because I don't have that many active friends on dA.

Apparently I need to update y'all on my life.

So, I've been reading A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R R Martin - I know, I'm like 12 years too late for that to be a New Thing XD. Really good series, not something to read if you like feel-good stories though, very dark - not to say that there is not any comedy. I've been reading it on a Kindle and I can highly recommend that also - lasts ages on a single battery charge, and you don't lose your page and also you don't make your bag weigh a tonne if you happen to be reading real doorstoppers like I tend to XD

It is now my Easter holiday, I will be starting my exams shortly after I go back to University so I have quite a lot of revision to do. Don't want to let my tutor down, she is not worried about me now and I don't want her to ever have to be. Will be going to Austria for a week, but because of how late in the year it is we will probably have to go up on the glaciers to get any skiing done - the upside of this is that we will have time to actually do some sightseeing and touristy things, and there are a lot of nice things to see in the Tyrolean Mountains.

Xen has been working for a catalogue-based company, and while he has been doing all the work the payoff simply is not enough to sustain the two of us in a house like this. He isn't even getting minimum wage. He has a couple of job prospects up in the air, so fingers crossed that goes well.

I have been attempting to grow a bloody tonne of vegetables - no real progress of interest as yet, not a pair of true leaves in sight. But it's something to keep busy with, and with any luck will pay off in tasty tasty food come the summer.

As far as art goes, well, I have not done anything really creative in ages. Worrying about money and lab reports and keeping the house from being a mess (which it is anyway) isn't really conducive to creation, and I need more sleep than ever, it seems, I cannot thrive on being awake for more than 16 hours a day. You can expect maybe one or two deviations over the holidays, if Digi kicks my arse hard enough, but I doubt I will be posting much until the summer. I haven't even really done any knitting either, because it makes my arms hurt.

Hope you all do well in your coming exams, let me know if there is anything you would have of me, as always. Love to you all.

Chalky out.
